This HIM manager would specialize in ensuring that information is used appropriately in revenue cycle operations, that the department operates in compliance, that data are accurate, and that information is being used optimally, Kloss says.
As a result, HIM professionals often specialize in a particular area of expertise, in addition to being trained in a core set of HIM skills. The impact of technology on the future of work is uncertain. Their progress will be reflected in accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education, created in as an accrediting body for degree-granting programs in HIM and health informatics.
